Learn to Play Hockey:

Every Great Hockey Player Starts Somewhere!

Is your child interested in playing ice hockey? Whether they've been watching hockey on TV, cheering from the stands, or simply want to try something new, learning to play hockey is an exciting first step!

At Garnet Valley Ice Hockey, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover the excitement of the game, build confidence on the ice, and develop a lifelong love of hockey.

Start Your Hockey Journey

Learning to play hockey is about much more than skating and scoring goals. It's about building confidence, making friends, learning teamwork, and having fun!

Learn to Play Hockey programs introduce young players to the fundamentals of the game in a positive, supportive environment. Through age-appropriate instruction and on-ice activities, participants can begin developing important skills, including:

  • Basic skating and balance
  • Stickhandling and puck control
  • Passing and shooting
  • Teamwork and sportsmanship
  • Confidence and comfort on the ice

Our Recommendation for New Players

Garnet Valley Ice Hockey strongly recommends that new players participate in a Learn to Play Hockey program before beginning their first season with our Mites or Elementary teams.

These introductory programs help young athletes build a foundation of skating and hockey skills before entering organized team play.

By gaining experience in a Learn to Play environment, children can feel more comfortable on the ice, develop confidence in their abilities, and be better prepared to enjoy their first season with Garnet Valley Ice Hockey.
